So! all you who criticised the American government after the Catrina thing happened, let's hear you do the same to the Indian, and Pakistani governments! Complain go on! about how the Indian government would rather spend money on investigating anti-sikh riots a few years ago instead of spending it on making better buildings. Criticise how Pakistan and India have both spent money on nuclear weapons. Complain about how India intervined in Bangledesh, costing the country money in 1971. Complain about it go on! Criticise the Indonesian Srilankan and Thai governments for spending their money on civil wars, instead of defences against earthquakes because I don't remember you doing that after the Tsunami. I challenge you all. Proove you're not hypocrites. Proove you're consistent! Now's your opportunity. Come on, I want to read it. BTW, I haven't expressed any views on the examples I mentioned, they're not relevant. I am not expressing any views on any government of countries affected by any disaster, I'm just prooving a point here!
Bravo!
exactly what I would ask Noblin if he didn't have me on ignore. also. all the poor folks that whined about New Orleans look at pakastan and you don't got it so bad after all! of course those middle eastern countrys just suck anyway, they've been around about a thousand years and they still live in the stone ages. damn that capitalism right?
Lol. I can't wait to see the flaming, but I don't give a shit it's true!
Did I say You suck over there in the middle of the desert? well, you do!
With this post WW. has reached rock bottom and continued to dig.
*shrug*
Well, sure, every government chooses to spend its money one way or another. None of these countries, I want to point out, claim to be the model and the greatest country on earth and the very ideal society that spreads its political systems around the world. Earth quakes are much harder to predict than floods and much harder to protect against. Even the strictest building standards might fail when an earth quake of this magnitude hits, shoud people not build in areas prone to earth quakes .. probably not, same with people who build cities below see level. The U.S. government has infinitely more money at its disposal than the Pakistani government. The response, yes, has been incredibly slow and it's obvious no evactuation plans were made but, let's face it, the New Orelans disaster affected gas prices around the world immediately and was covered by every media around the globe, what, exactly has this tragedy done to affect your daily life, absolutely nothing, hence, sadly, it's much more important to the rest of the world how the U.S. government handles its affairs and it has a much more direct impact than how disasters in other places are handled. WW explain to me what could've been done to prevent the tsunami and why it hadn't been done. Well we have a tsunami every 100 or 500 or 1000 years and it's really the first time this region experiences one, the hurricane paths have been well known for years and that danger was clearly defined and reported but not acted upon. I think there is a slightly different set of circumstances here, and yet, yes, the governments of the respective countries have not done a great job to respond.
cheers

Well, the truth is, criticism and giving people a hard time is human nature. And everyone would have to admit to some point in their life they have though 'that person is an idiot, doing it all wrong', or 'I could do a better job' or something like that. Truth is, it is incredibly hard to 'do the right, or best thing' in your own life, you always manage to do something that someone could have done or handled better. Now I'm not making any excuses for anyone, and we all probably think politicians or government are completely useless on a number of scores, but can you imagine how hard it could be to do the 'right thing' when governing a country? Hell, I manage to fuck my own life up and have difficulty with that, so I can't begin to imagine governing a country. My point is that everyone has different values, and that is why the difference in response to the two situations described above. For right or wrong, whatever, but that is why there is a difference in peoples attitude.
WEll, d.l. you don't get paid millions of dollars for governing your own life and those who don't feel they're qualified to govern a country should not run for that position.
And WW, so what, exactly does it prove that we criticize other governments' responses to natural disasters, it doesn't make the U.S. government response any more excusable, in fact I don't really see how that matters at all.
Oh my post wasn't about any government, it was about the people who commented on one government and not another, as was clearly stated. Now in response to WB's point about earthquakes, two earthquakes struck a few years ago, one in America and one in Bam Iran. Both were just as powerful, one killed two, and one killed 30000. I notice that you criticised the US government for not preparing properly for the huricane, however, I also noticed you didn't criticise the Indian or Pakistani governments for spending money which could have been spent building deesent roads, better buildings etc, on fighting each other for example, for interfearing in Afghanistan in the case of Pakistan and Bangledesh in the case of India for example. Yes the huricane had consequences for the rest of the world, but the Earthquake does too, because UN money which may have been spent on other prodjects will go to the earthquake. Also, the Pakistani forces may be more occupied in recovering people from the earthquake and so won't have the resources to deal with the war on terror, this could mean a terror attack which is unpreventable. Alsok, the Kashmiris are angry so war could again erupt between India and Pakistan and the world may get involved since both have nuclear weapons capabilities. There are affects, they're just not immediate. Anyway, talking of Iran, I don't recall anyone heavily criticising them for spending money which could be spent on earthquakes elsewhere. I mean, all those police shutting down clubs, all the people who have to moniter music, they must all need paying by the government. There were many people affected by the tsunami all around he world. Still the media didn't pay as much attention to how the governments spent so much money on civil war. If they didn't they may have more money for the aftermath.
